The University of Oregon supports and encourages the growth of the fraternity and sorority community. Below is additional information for starting a chapter at the UO. For additional resources, please contact Justin Shukas, Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life, at jshukas@uoregon.edu or 541-346-1149.

Starting A Fraternity
Fraternities start in one of two ways:
1. Inter/national organization contacts Fraternity and Sorority Life staff
2. Student(s) begin an interest group and seek inter/national affiliation

Fraternities interested in opening at the University of Oregon must be voted into membership by the Interfraternity Council (IFC).

The University of Oregon and IFC believe in open expansion practices. When considering a new fraternity, both parties also take into account the health of the community as well as available support for a new organization.

Projected expansion timeline: N/A

No commitments will be made for further expansion until after January 1, 2016.

Starting A Sorority

The University of Oregon PHC follow the extension process as outlined by the National Panhellenic Conference. Local chapters are also welcome to seek membership in PHC. When considering a new sorority, both parties also take into account the health of the community as well as available support for a new organization.
